How to add an order surcharge

The Brandibble platform allow you to add a surcharge to orders coming from any of your Online Ordering or Catering locations.  Examples of surcharges include:

  • Delivery Fees – to cover packaging and other delivery costs
  • Service Fees – for delivery costs related to catering orders
  • Administrative Fees – for administrative costs related to scheduling catering orders

On Brandibble, we give you a lot of flexibility in terms of how surcharges can be set up: you can call them whatever you want, make them dollar- or percentage-based, and limit them to certain locations or types of orders.

Sounds pretty great, huh? We agree. Let’s get started.

How to add a surcharge at one of your locations

You can find the surcharge settings on the Payments & Promos > Surcharges page, as you see below:

Here’s how to use each of the surcharge fields:

  • Surcharge Name: this is the name that will show up in both the order sidebar on the checkout page and on your customer’s confirmation email.
  • Surcharge Type: allows you to set your fee as a fixed dollar amount or percentage of the pre-tax order total.
  • Surcharge Amount: the amount of the surcharge. If choose a Dollar surcharge, 5.00 = $5.00, whereas if you choose a Percentage surcharge, 5.00 = 5%.
  • Minimum Surcharge (in dollars): the minimum amount of the surcharge. If you don’t have a minimum surcharge, leave this field blank or set it to zero.
  • Maximum Surcharge (in dollars): the maximum amount of the surcharge. If you don’t plan to cap the surcharge, leave this field blank or set it to zero.
  • Maximum Surcharge (in dollars): the maximum amount of the surcharge. If you don’t plan to cap the surcharge, leave this field blank or set it to zero.
  • Taxed: choose “Yes” if tax should be calculated on the order total AFTER the surcharge has been applied or choose “No” if the tax should be calculated on the order total BEFORE the surcharge has been applied.
  • Service Types: this determines which types of orders will come with a surcharge (delivery, pickup, or both).
  • Requires Manager Approval: only applicable for certain POS integrations; choose “Yes” if a manager must approve the use of this surcharge.
  • Surcharge Status: only applicable for certain POS integrations; if you mark your surcharge as “inactive” then it will not be displayed on your POS as a surcharge option for employees.

Once you’ve created your surcharge, head over to the location where you’d like to activate it in Locations > Order Settings.  Find the Surcharge dropdown box and select the appropriate surcharge.  Don’t forget to hit the “Update Order Settings” button. Please note that since this is a location setting, it will only affect orders placed at this location. This allows you to vary your fees across your various Online Ordering and Catering locations.

Also, don’t forget to click the “Update Surcharge” button when you’re all done.
